A village stay in Papua New Guinea is just like being welcomed into a big family group, where people join together in daily activities and celebrate significant events, which are of importance to the entire community. Marriage, birth and death are marked by elaborate cultural activities and whilst not guaranteed to occur during your stay, villagers will be happy to explain the rites and customs surrounding these events.

Experience the unique and timeless Melanesian way of life. Learn how to open a “kulau”, prepare a “mumu” feast, create fantastic body decorations, join a village cricket match, sail a canoe, go fishing local style, visit the schoolhouse, or listen to the fascinating stories of village elders.


GAIRE COASTAL VILLAGE STAY
Day 1 Welcome to PNG. Meeting Service on arrival Port Moresby and transfer by road, less than one hour
southeast along the Magi Highway to Gaire Village for 5 nights Homestay with All Meals.
Enjoy a refreshing kulau drink on arrival, village orientation tour and meet your host family.
Day 2 Explore the village, surrounding reefs and beaches.
Day 3 Visit the Community School and join village activities.
Day 4 Early morning reef fishing trip and local market visit where produce from village gardens is displayed.
Day 5 Village activities and evening farewell sing along to the sounds of ukulele and guitars.
Day 6 Transfer to Port Moresby for afternoon City Tour. Lamana Hotel room only basis.
Day 7 Transfer to airport for departure flight.


RABAUL & DUKE OF YORK ISLANDS VILLAGE STAY
Day 1 Welcome to PNG. Meeting Service on arrival Port Moresby with transit assistance to domestic flight.
Transfer to Kokopo Beach Bungalows for 2 night stay with All Meals.
Day 2 Half day Rabaul Tour.
Day 3 With an active volcano in the background, cruise across the channel to the idyllic Duke of York Islands
for 2 night Homestay with All Meals. Meet your host family and learn about traditions and daily routine,
including the importance of certain plants and customs.
Day 4 Village activities which may include sailing a dugout canoe, diving for shellfish, trekking the rainforest
to search for exotic birds and butterflies, or a beachcombing expedition.
Day 5 Return to Rabaul and transfer to Kokopo Beach Bungalows for 2 night stay with All Meals.
Day 6 Half day Volcano Tour.
Day 7 Transfer to airport for flight to Port Moresby and onward departure flight.

Village accommodation is basic. Sleeping arrangements are of a communal nature, washing maybe by bucket, river, or ocean and pit toilets (long drops) are the norm. Skimpy clothing may be considered offensive and modesty is appreciated.
In Rabaul 4 adults share two twin rooms, 3 adults share triple, 2 adults share twin and 1 adult single room.
Air Niugini will not accept costs incurred by passengers for disruption caused by volcanic activity, earthquakes or severe weather.
